The Cathedral is delighted to welcome Neil Stipp as Guest Organist on Wednesday, February 5 at 1:00pm
Neil Stipp is a music teacher, organist, and award-winning composer. He received his bachelor's degree from Biola University, master's degree from the University of Southern California, and doctorate at UCLA (full scholarship), all majoring in organ performance. Neil is a member of the Los Angeles chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO), ASCAP, and the Christian Fellowship of Art Music Composers (CFAMC).
Dr. Stipp won first prize in the international 2010 AGO/ECS Publishing Award in Choral Composition for his anthem “May Your Life Be Filled with Gladness," and it was premiered in Washington, D.C. His works have been published by Darcey Press, LifeWay Christian Resources, E.C. Schirmer, and over three dozen works by Universal Edition. Recently, Neil’s “Symphony Capriccio” was premiered in Moldova (Eastern Europe), and his “Celebratory Overture for Strings” and “String Quartet No. 3” were premiered in Poland. His music has been recorded on several different CDs created by Phasma-Music.
Neil currently enjoys his organist position at Immanuel First Lutheran Church in West Covina, CA, and is the college organist and artist-in-residence at Whittier College. When he’s not busy with music, his hobbies include hiking, Sudoku, traveling, and dining with his three sons. www.neilstipp.com
