The community of faith of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is invited to send prayer intentions to be blessed by Archbishop José H. Gomez and presented to Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City during a pilgrimage Mass that Archbishop Gomez will be celebrating on Saturday, July 8, 2023.
Love to sing? Audition for the Cathedral's Children's Chorus on Sunday June 11 or Monday, June 12. Open to all Children 3rd to 8th grade, the Chorus will have opportunity to sing at various Masses and Events at the Cathedral throughout the year. The Cathedral campus will be closed on Monday, April 10, 2023, in observance of Easter. There will be no 7AM Mass and no live stream of the noon Mass. The Café, Gift Shop, and Parish offices will be closed on this day so that staff can enjoy a day of rest as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Savior. The Cathedral Church, Mausoleum and Parking structure remain open during our regular hours of operation.
You are invited to visit an exhibit honoring the life, ministry, and legacy of late Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell now open to the public inside the Cathedral. The chapel, located in one of the niches in the cathedral’s south ambulatory, features photos of O’Connell throughout his life, as well as personal items such as handwritten notes, Bible, rosary, books of jokes, and more. “We have made a beautiful, prayerful chapel to our beloved friend. I hope many will be able to come and celebrate the life of Bishop O’Connell, which was truly a life lived for Jesus,” said Archbishop José H. Gomez, who was on hand to dedicate the chapel on March 17.
Works of art focused on spirituality from 60 students of 12 Catholic high schools throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles are on display at the Art Chapel inside the Cathedral. The annual Robert Graham Memorial Student Art Exhibit opened on March 19th with a special blessing by Archbishop José H. Gomez, who also presented students with certificates. The 38th running of the Los Angeles Marathon takes place on Sunday, March 19, 2023. The Cathedral is the sixth landmark on a course starting from Dodger Stadium and finishing on the Avenue of the Stars. Access to the Cathedral will be limited due to street closures. | Click to download access pass
The Stations of the Cross take place every Friday of Lent, at 11:30AM. It will begin in the sanctuary of the Cathedral. The Stations of the Cross are a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ's last day on Earth as a man. The 14 devotions, or stations, focus on specific events of His last day, beginning with His condemnation. The stations are commonly used as a mini pilgrimage as the individual moves from station to station. At each station, the individual recalls and meditates on a specific event from Christ's last day.
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles announced today the funeral services for Bishop David G. O’Connell, Auxiliary for the San Gabriel Pastoral Region of the Archdiocese. Services will take place on three days, with the first taking place at the San Gabriel Pastoral Region on at 7PM on March 1, 2023. Public viewing will take place on March 2, 2023 at the Cathedral followed by a Vigil Mass at 7:00PM. The Funeral Mass will take place at 11AM on Friday, March 3, 2023. Click for details.

It is a shock and I have no words to express my sadness. On Wednesday, February 8th, Pope Francis issued an appeal for help for all those affected in Turkey and Syria after the devastating earthquake of 7.8 where over 46,000 people have died and tens of thousands are missing and injured. “With emotion I pray for them, and express my closeness to these peoples, the the families of the victims and to all those who are suffering from this devastating calamity”. The Cathedral is excited to announce the start of our new Christian Initiation program for Adults on Sunday February 5, 2023 at 11:30 AM led by Deacon Ricardo Mora. Formerly called "Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)," is the process through which one becomes a full member of the Roman Catholic Church. This is a program for any adult inquiring about our Catholic faith or wishing to receive the sacraments of initiation. Please register before Feb 1, 2023.

On Monday January 16th, our nation observes Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday. On this day the Parish Offices and Gift Shop will be closed. There will be two services on this day: 12:10 PM Daily Mass and a 3:00 PM Mass honoring the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

A new art exhibit honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe by sacred artist Lalo Garcia is now open at the Cathedral. “Un Pincel Guadalupano” (“A Guadalupan Brush”), featuring 13 art pieces including a palm statue and banner is located adjacent to the chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe, which houses the only known relic of the tilma or cloak of St. Juan Diego in the U.S. The exhibit features images of the Virgin of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego and will be open to the public through December 31. For 491 years, her image has been a symbol of unity, peace, compassion, and hope for people around the world.
