The Archdiocese of Los Angeles announced today the funeral services for Bishop David G. O’Connell, Auxiliary for the San Gabriel Pastoral Region of the Archdiocese. Services will take place on three days, with the first taking place at the San Gabriel Pastoral Region on at 7PM on March 1, 2023. Public viewing will take place on March 2, 2023 at the Cathedral followed by a Vigil Mass at 7:00PM. The Funeral Mass will take place at 11AM on Friday, March 3, 2023. Click for details.

Gomez on the Death of Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell: I am very sad this afternoon to report that our beloved Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell has passed away unexpectedly. It is a shock and I have no words to express my sadness. As a priest and later a bishop here in Los Angeles for forty-five years, Bishop Dave was a man of deep prayer who had a great love for Our Blessed Mother. (click for full statement)
On Wednesday, February 8th, Pope Francis issued an appeal for help for all those affected in Turkey and Syria after the devastating earthquake of 7.8 where over 46,000 people have died and tens of thousands are missing and injured. “With emotion I pray for them, and express my closeness to these peoples, the the families of the victims and to all those who are suffering from this devastating calamity”. El miércoles, 8 de febrero, el Papa Francisco emitió un llamado para ayudar a todos los que fueron afectados en Turquía y Siria después del terremoto de 7.8 del 6 de febrero en el cual han muerto más de 46,000 personas, y donde miles de personas siguen desaparecidas o heridas. “Con conmoción rezo por ellos y expreso mi cercanía a estos pueblos, a los familiares de las víctimas y a todos aquellos que sufren por esta devastadora calamidad.” El Pontífice anima a todos a solidarizarse con esos territorios.
