The visit of the Pilgrim images of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego to the Cathedral kicks off their annual journey to parishes and cemeteries throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, culminating in a special Mass on Dec. 5 at East Los Angeles College Stadium. This year's theme will be "Always Forward in Mission and Hope," uniting this longstanding celebration with the special Jubilee Year in the Archdiocese commemorating the 250th Anniversary of Mission San Gabriel, the founding church of the Archdiocese.
The pilgrim images will be visiting the Cathedral starting October 14th through October 21st and will be on display for public veneration during the hours listed below. On Sunday, October 17th, the Cathedral welcomes the images with dancers on the plaza (11:30 AM & 1:00 PM) and a festive Sunday Mass in spanish with Mariachi at 12:00 PM.
During the last four days of the visit, October 18th – 21st, our Cathedral Pastor, Fr. David Gallardo will lead us in praying the Rosary at the Cathedral immediately following the daily 12:10 PM Mass. Both the Rosary and Mass will be live streamed through Facebook and YouTube live.

About the Images: La Peregrina, a pilgrim image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, is an exact digital reproduction of the original image in Mexico City's Basilica, which has been blessed and touched to the original image. The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe and one of St. Juan Diego were gifts hand-delivered to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles by Monsignor Diego Monroy, then Rector of Our Lady of Guadalupe Basilica in Mexico City. Her image has been a symbol of unity, peace, compassion, and hope for people around the world.
The pilgrimage of the images serves as spiritual preparation for the upcoming 90th Procession and Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 5th. Since 1931, the Catholic faithful of Los Angeles have continued the tradition and honor Our Lady of Guadalupe through the streets of East Los Angeles with festive floats. The procession is held every year on the First Sunday of Advent as an archdiocese-wide celebration. This is to allow each parish to have their own Mass and Mañanitas for La Guadalupana on her December 12th feast day.
Sunday, December 5, 2021: "Always Forward in Mission and Hope"
The procession begins at 10:30 AM on the corner of East Cesar Chavez Avenue and the 710 Freeway (near Ford Blvd) and one block west of Our Lady of Solitude Church. The procession then travels east on Cesar Chavez Avenue towards the East LA College Stadium for Holy Mass at 1:00 PM with Archbishop Gomez and priests of the Archdiocese. (Click for route map). All are welcome! For more information regarding the annual pilgrimage, including the list of Pilgrim Sites, please visit guadalupela.org call (213) 637-7235.
